Mitropacup 2026 – Invitation

Next year, the Mitropacup will take place from 1 to 10 May 2026 in St. Veit an der Glan, Austria.

The Mitropacup was founded 50 years ago by Kurt Jungwirth and Gertrude Wagner, who transferred an idea from football to chess. Kurt Jungwirth, a leading Styrian politician responsible for art and culture and president of the Austrian Chess Federation for 46 years, shaped art and chess in Austria like no other. Jungwirth passed away in 2025; the Mitropacup will be held in his honour and in his memory.

The venue is the famous Kunsthotel Fuchspalast. It was designed by the Austrian painter, sculptor, philosopher and visionary Professor Ernst Fuchs, who is considered the co-founder of the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism. There could hardly be a more fitting venue.

The Austrian Chess Federation, as the organiser, has now published the official invitation.
