Team Line-ups Published for the 50th Mitropa Cup 2026
The Mitropa Chess Association is pleased to announce that the official team line-ups for the upcoming 50th Mitropa Cup have now been published on Chess-Results: Open, Women
The anniversary edition of this traditional team competition will take place from 2 to 10 May 2026 in St. Veit an der Glan, Austria. Often referred to as a “mini European Championship,” the Mitropa Cup once again brings together teams from Central Europe. The event is organized by SV ASKÖ St. Veit, under the leadership of club president Fritz Knapp, on behalf of the Austrian Chess Federation. The tournament will be played in both an Open and a Women’s section, each featuring teams composed of four players, one reserve, and one captain.
Approximately 120 players and officials from the participating federations — Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, and, for the first time, a women’s team from Ukraine — will compete in a nine-round round-robin tournament. Games start daily at 14:00, except for the final round on 10 May, which begins at 10:00. All games will be broadcasted live. Furthermore GM Felix Blohberger will offer daily highlights on his Youtube-Channel.
The year 2026 marks a special milestone, as the Mitropa Cup celebrates its 50th anniversary. The competition was originally founded by the Austrian Chess Federation, with its former president Kurt Jungwirth regarded as the initiator of this long-standing international event.
