Czech Republic and Switzerland win Mitropacup
The Czech Republic claimed victory at the Mitropacup in Trenčín with wins in the final two rounds against Slovenia and Germany. The previously leading hosts from Slovakia had to settle for draws against Austria and Hungary, narrowly missing out on a home victory. In the end, the Czech Republic scored 13 out of a possible 18 team points – enough to secure sole victory. Slovakia and Germany finished just one point behind, with the hosts taking second place thanks to a better tie-break score.

In the women’s section, Switzerland was in a league of its own this year. Coach Milan Novkovic’s team allowed only one draw against Hungary, won the other eight matches—mostly by a clear margin—and convincingly secured the Mitropacup title with 17 points. In the battle for the other podium places, France came out on top with 13 points, followed by Italy and Hungary, each with 12.

A big thank you goes to the organizers, who successfully ran the Mitropacup despite challenging circumstances—the originally planned venue had to be replaced at short notice. Tournament director Milan Roman and chief arbiter Martin Dobrotka also managed two venue changes.
A particular highlight was the live commentary by Sergei Movsesian alongside the livestream, where he also presented two highlights of the day for each round. The next Mitropacup will take place in Austria in 2026.
